Taprobane East Wreck

Depth Range: 26–32 meters (85–105 feet).

Visibility: Best from Mid-October/November through April when ocean conditions are calmest.

Experience Level: Advanced Open Water (AOW) divers and above.

Resting on a stark white seabed offshore from Colombo, the Taprobane East Wreck is a small, sunken barge that offers an exciting challenge for experienced divers. Though the vessel is heavily broken up, the contrasting white sand floor, open blue water, and scattered steel structures make this site a spectacular playground for wide-angle underwater photography.

Because the wreck is located further offshore, it is frequently exposed to strong ocean currents, making the dive dynamic and best suited for confident Advanced Open Water divers. These same currents bring nutrient-rich waters that fuel a thriving ecosystem around the mangled hull, attracting an impressive density of reef and pelagic marine life.
