Steeped in sci-fi history and rich marine biodiversity, this unknown sunken barge holds a legendary place in Sri Lankan diving lore. It is famous as the site where acclaimed science fiction author, futurist, and avid ocean explorer Sir Arthur C. Clarke completed his final scuba dive on his birthday. Measuring roughly 30 to 35 meters in length, this compact steel barge now rests peacefully on a 29-meter deep sandy seabed off the coast of Colombo.

What Makes Clarke Wreck Special?

Named in honor of Sir Arthur C. Clarke (author of 2001: A Space Odyssey), this historic site offers divers a rare opportunity to explore the exact wreck where the iconic author made his final underwater descent.

The structure and hull are carpeted in bright orange cup corals and delicate whip corals, adding brilliant pops of color against the deep blue waters.

The Clarke Wreck delivers a unique blend of historical significance, vibrant soft corals, and dense fish aggregations. It stands out as one of Colombo’s most intriguing and meaningful wreck dives.
