Lotus Barge Wreck

• Depth Range: 25–28 meters (82–92 feet)

  Visibility: Best from Mid-October/November through April when ocean conditions are calmest.

  Experience Level: Advanced Open Water (AOW) divers and above.

Originally a small steam barge widely utilised in Sri Lankan waters around the turn of the 20th century, compact in size at roughly 15 to 18 meters long, the vessel now sits upright on the sea floor. Over time, the ocean has transformed this historic steel shell into one of Colombo’s renowned “Coral Wrecks,” serving as a vital artificial reef for deep-water marine species.

An oasis of life surrounded by a vast sandy seabed, the Lotus Barge is widely considered one of the most vibrant and colorful wreck dives in Colombo.  this charming site delivers an unforgettable scuba diving experience packed with thriving marine habitats. 

What Makes Lotus Barge Special?

Thick blankets of yellow, pink, and purple soft corals and delicate whip corals wrap around the hull and single midship boiler.

Despite its age, key structural elements remain clearly visible, including the intact bow, a prominent midships steam boiler, and the single screw propeller and rudder near the stern.
