Chief Dragon (Car Wreck)

  • Depth Range: 24 meters on the upper main deck to 35 meters (115 feet) at the sea bed.

This 112-meter-long Panamanian car carrier is widely considered one of Colombo’s most fascinating and colourful dive sites. 

The vessel sank in March 1983. Over four decades later, nature has taken complete ownership of the massive structure. While the superstructure has broken up and lies scattered across the sandy seabed at 35 meters, the main hull remains largely intact and upright, creating an incredible artificial reef system.

The rusted chassis of classic cars have completely fused with vibrant hard and soft coral colonies, seeing automobile frames transformed into marine habitats is an unforgettable sight for underwater photographers.
