Originally a 77-meter-long Maldivian cargo vessel, the ship sank during a monsoon storm on May 31, 2009. Sitting nearly upright at a maximum depth of 30 meters, the steel hull has since evolved into a thriving artificial reef packed with structure, history, and abundant marine life.
What Makes Medhufaru Special?
The ship still holds interesting machinery and structure on deck, including construction vehicles (front-loaders) left over from its cargo-carrying days.
Every descent brings encounters with inquisitive batfish that like to accompany divers along the wreck. Graceful stingrays often rest on the surrounding sandy sea floor, while massive, shimmering schools of fusiliers orbit the bow.
